What I thot of when you described the show
was the word “redemption”. The sad, ugly excuse
of a home is redeemed into a dream home. That
speaks of the biblical theme of redemption, does
it not? What does Christ say, “Behold, I make all things new”

The basic theme of the show could be a natural
transition into deeper spiritual waters if you
ask me.

I’m sorry for taking so long to respond. I’ve been thinking about your question, and I realized I’m not really the best one to respond. I only have a couple of shows I watch on a regular basis.

The one show that did pop into mind was ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, where a team of designers and builders turn a sad excuse for a house into a dream home. The family who receives the new house has usually been picked because it has endured some sort of extreme circumstances and is on the verge of losing the house or dying when the house caves in.

It’s a great show that gives everyone a good feeling about being human and helping your fellow humans, but if you listen carefully, you’ll hear the real reason the designers and contractors do the work. Most of the comments go something like this, “I just think it’s great that we can help these really deserving people, and it just makes me feel really good.”

A statement like that can be the beginning of a good discussion on what humans “deserve” and why we do anything for our fellow brothers and sisters. Is it because it makes us feel good? Maybe. But isn’t there a higher reason?

I am not a big TV watcher — but I should be if for no other reason than TV is a reflection of our culture.

What should I be watching in your opinion?
